Srinagar, Jan 31: A woman died of a suspected cardiac arrest following panic and commotion triggered by an assault incident in the Zeithyar area of Nishat in Srinagar outskirts, while police have launched a manhunt for two unidentified attackers involved in the case.
According to official sources, two unknown persons forcibly entered the house of a Sumo driver, a resident of Zeithyar Nishat, and allegedly assaulted him, leaving him injured.
During the chaos that followed the incident, a woman living in the neighbourhood suffered a heart attack and collapsed. She was declared dead shortly thereafter.
Police from Nishat Police Station rushed to the spot, but the assailants had already fled by the time they arrived. The injured man, who was found under the influence of alcohol, was taken into custody for questioning. He was provided medical treatment and is currently lodged at the police station, officials said.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 7/26 at Police Station Nishat, and further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the attack and to trace the accused.
Police officials said all possible angles, including the sequence of events leading to the woman’s death, are being thoroughly examined. [KNT]
