KRISHNAGIRI: A man di€d on the spot and two others suffered injuries when a speeding tipper truck hit a two-wheeler they were travelling on near Shoolagiri in Krishnagiri district on Thursday evening.
The deceased has been identified as K Ajith Kumar, of Periya Sappady. He was a labourer. S Murali, 27, and T Munusamy, 30, of Periya Sappady, who suffered injuries in the accident, were admitted to Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital.
The accident happened when the trio were returning home after work. “Ajith Kumar, who was riding the two-wheeler, died on the spot when the truck ran over his head,” said a police officer at the Shoolagiri police station.
Following the accident, more than 100 local people held a protest on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway, disrupting traffic for more than two hours. They said over-speeding tipper trucks going to and coming from crusher units had caused several accidents. The Shoolagiri police pacified the protesters and assured that they would take necessary action to curb the menace, following which the locals withdrew their protest.
