A married man and his girlfriend jump into the Malaprabha River, to end their life by suicide, in Mallapur village, Ramdurg taluk.
The deceased were Jagadish Yallappa Kavalekar, 27, and Gangamma Tyapi, 25, from Mallapur village. Both of them left their home on Monday and were found dead in the Malaprabha River on Wednesday morning.
Ramdurg police visited the spot and recovered the bodies. Police said that both of them fell into the water while hugging each other. According to family sources, Jagadish and Gangamma were in love for the past three years. However, the family did not agree to their marriage. Jagadish married another girl just one year ago
The wife of the deceased went to her hometown, Bochabal village, for her first delivery. A heated argument was going on at home when Jagadish raised the issue of a second marriage, which the family objected to.
Locals informed police that the Jagadish and his girlfriend jumped into the Malaprabha River after their family opposed the second marriage.
Ramdurg police and fire brigade personnel recovered the bodies. A case was registered at Ramdurg police station. The police initiated an investigation.
