Anantnag, Jan 16. The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested two public servants in Srinagar in connection with a bribery case involving land demarcation in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Officials said those arrested include a Patwari of the Revenue Department posted at Halqa Soaf Shali, Kokernag, and a Chowkidar of the same halqa, who allegedly acted as a middleman in the transaction.
According to details, the case was registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation on January 15 following a complaint alleging that the Patwari had demanded a bribe of ₹30,000 for carrying out demarcation of the complainant’s land.
After verification of the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught the Patwari along with the Chowkidar red-handed while accepting a bribe amount of Rs 15,000 from the complainant. Both accused were immediately taken into custody.
Officials said the Chowkidar, also a public servant, was allegedly facilitating the illegal transaction between the complainant and the Patwari. The arrests were made on the spot during the trap operation.
The CBI said further investigation is underway to ascertain whether other officials were involved and to examine similar complaints, if any, linked to land-related works in the area.
