AIMSA Seeks PM’s Intervention for Safe Evacuation of Indian Students From Iran
Srinagar, Jan 15 : All India Medical Students Association Vice President Dr Mohammad Moomin Khan on Thursday said that Indian students stranded in Iran are facing severe financial distress and are not in a position to leave the country on their own.
In a video message, Dr Khan said the association has been receiving continuous calls from students as well as their parents, expressing anxiety over the rapidly evolving situation. He said many students do not have the financial capacity to arrange travel independently, while parents are also unable to send money due to the internet shutdown and communication restrictions.
Dr Khan said the situation has been compounded by the fact that several universities in Iran are not allowing students to leave, leaving them effectively stranded. “Students are stuck on multiple fronts. They do not have money, parents cannot transfer funds, and universities are restricting their movement,” he said.
The AIMSA Vice President stressed that if the Government of India is planning the evacuation of Indian nationals from Iran, it should be done inclusively. “If evacuation is planned, evacuate everyone. Do not leave students behind,” he said.
Dr Khan sought immediate intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the safety and evacuation of all Indian students, particularly those pursuing medical education. He said students from Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country are living under constant fear and uncertainty.
He added that the association will continue to coordinate with families and authorities and urged the Ministry of External Affairs to take urgent, humanitarian steps to address the crisis.
